Muhammad ﷺ – A Perfect Human Role Model in every aspect, from a husband to the leader of the country.
With the name of Allah most Beneficient ever Merciful
“And surely thou, (0 Muhammad ﷺ) have sublime morals.” Al Quran 68:4
People, through the passage of time, have always used some sort of criterion to claim superiority over others, either as individuals or as a group.
A perfect example of this was the world wars which was an attempt by Hitler and the Nazis to rule the world. They believed that they were a superior race or an “Arian race” and although the wars have long ended there are still pockets of people calling themselves “skin heads” that still believe that they are a superior nation.
Not too long ago, South Africa was ruled by apartheid which basically discriminated between people based on the color of the skin.
Today, the Palestinians are being removed by the zionists from their homelands and these forced removals are based on ethnic and religious grounds.
Then there are many families that claim royalty and still rule over others. On an individual level the world has seen many people climbing to power and hanging on to it.
Muhammad ﷺ is that one man that stands out as a perfect human role model, the champion of humanity because he is the only one that fought for equality and justice immaterial of race, religion, sex and family.
Islam, the religion he founded, is the only religion that accepts other religions. It is a foundational belief of every Muslim to believe in all the Prophets and their books. In his traditions there are many narrations of people of other faiths being in heaven as well.
He preached that what he taught was not new but a continuation of the Prophets that came before him. He held the other prophets in high esteem. Once he had to judge between a Muslim and a Jew and he ruled in favor of the Jew.
Once a group of Christians came to Medina and when it came to Sunday they needed a place to pray and the Prophet ﷺ allowed them to pray in his mosque. When the Negus of Ethiopia passed away, the Prophet ﷺ gathered his companions together and prayed for him.
He never aspired or put himself into the position of leadership by using wealth, family name, good clothing or refined speech. Even when he was in that position of leadership he never treated his companions as less than himself.
He wore the same clothes, lived in a similar house and participated in conversations as if he was no better than the others. He even treated the poor and the slaves as equals and even shared their meals.
He overcame racial barriers. Hazrath Bilal (RA), a black slave was his close companion and his personal treasurer. Quite often he got up for women and afforded them great respect.
He always welcomed his daughter Bibi Fatimah (RA) in this way and he even got up and put down his turban for an elderly woman who was his mother’s friend to sit on.
He could have so easily put one of his family members or tribe members as his successor but he did not.
He never judged people even if they committed a sin. Once the blood of a confessed adulterous splashed on to the clothing of Khalid and he rebuked her. The Prophet ﷺ explained to him that the woman had sought pardon and she was purified.
Once while they were in the mosque a companion of his remarked about someone that was rushing past to seek his livelihood instead of coming to the mosque. The Prophet ﷺ rebuked him and told him not to judge others as you do not know of his circumstances.
Being pious to him was not about prayer and doing good deeds only but it was about attaining a pure inner state of consciousness and Allah awareness.
Muhammad ﷺ did not set an example in a particular field but set the example in every field. In everything we do as human beings he set the example.
From his domestic life to a religious man, to an army general, to legislator, to a jurist and even a ruler, he set the perfect example and standard. “certainly you have got in the Apostle of Allah an excellent exemplar for him who hopes in Allah and the latter day…” Al Quran 33:21
It is only by following his way will we be able to free ourselves as individuals and a society as a whole.
Our world today of wars, ever increasing wealth gap, spiraling divorce needs to very seriously take lessons from the character and example of Allah’s final Messenger, The Holy Prophet Muhammad Salallahu Alayhe Wasallam. Peace be upon him.
