Love Our Mothers

Islam teaches us to Love Our Mothers & pamper them.

With the name of Allah, most Beneficient, ever Merciful

The Prophet Salallahu Alayhe wasallam has said: “Whoever is not grateful to man is not grateful to Allah.” Ahmed & Tirmizi. He also said that “paradise lies at the feet of your mother.” Ahmed, Nisai & Bahagi

Abu Yazid Al Bestami (RA), during his youth, was studying the Quraan. He came across the verse “Show gratitude to Me (Allah) and to thy parents.” Sura Lukmaan 31:14. He immediately asked leave of his master and went home to his mother.

“Why Taifur,” his mother lovingly addressed him: “Why did you come home?” Abu Yazid (RA) replied: “I came across the verse where Allah commands me to serve Him and you. I cannot be a manager in two houses at once.

This verse stung me to the quick. Either you ask me from Allah so that I may be yours entirely, or apprentice me to Allah so that I may dwell wholly with Him.” “My son, I resign you to Allah and exempt you from your duty to me,” said his mother. “Go and be Allah’s.”

Al Termedhi on the contrary wanted to go out in search of Islamic knowledge with two of his friends but his mother said to him: “Soul of your mother, I am a feeble old woman and have no one in the world. You look after my affairs. To whom will you leave me, alone and feeble as I am.”

Her words pained him and he abandoned his journey. Some time had elapsed when one day he began to cry bitterly in a cemetery because he could not fulfil his religious duty of acquiring knowledge.

Suddenly a luminous man appeared in front of him and asked him why he was crying. Al Termedhi (RA) told him his story and the man offered to teach him. He taught him a lesson everyday for three years.

Then he realized that the person was Kizar (AS) and that he had attained this felicity because he pleased his mother.

Abu Bakar Al Kattani (RA) sought permission from his mother to go for pilgrimage to the mosques. She gave him permission and he left on his journey. While on route he became unclean and he felt that he should not start off his journey in such a manner.

He returned home to purify himself and when he got there he found his mother sitting behind the door of his house waiting for him. He said “mother did you not give me permission to leave.” “yes” she replied “but without you I could not bear to look at the house.

Since you left I have been seated here. I resolved that I would not rise up until you came back again.” Abu Bakar Al Kattani (RA) never ventured out on a journey again until his mother passed away many years later.

Owais Quarni (RA) loved the Prophet Salallahu Alayhe Wasallam so much that when he came to the mount of Uhud and heard that the Prophet Salallahu Alayhe Wasallam had lost a tooth there, he broke off one of his tooth.

When he realized that it was perhaps the wrong one, he broke off all his teeth. He lived in Yemen and he became a Muslim during the time of the Prophet Salallahu Alayhe wasallam. Although he loved the Prophet Salallahu Alayhe Wasallam so much, he could not meet him because of his services to his aged mother.

The Prophet Salallahu Alayhe Wasallam described him and advised his Companions to seek his blessings when they meet him. The Prophet Salallahu Alayhe Wasallam left one of his gowns for him and many years later Hazrath Omar (RA), after seeking him, presented this gown to him.

Imagine how he felt when he learnt that the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhe Wasallam had thought of him and spoke so highly of him.

Seeking religious knowledge, going for pilgrimage and having the opportunity of being right next to the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhe Wasallam are extremely important religious duties but these great men sacrificed even these acts of worship for their mothers.

From this we can gather how important it is to serve our parents, especially our mothers. How rightly the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhe Wasallam has said: “paradise lies at the feet of your mother.” Ahmed, Nisai & Bahagi.

We today live under the misconception that our spouses and our children make up our family and we have no time for our parents and other family members.

This is not Islam, for Islam teaches us to be broad minded and to have good relationships and to care for every Muslim. It teaches us to love everyone.

Making our mothers happy on mother’s day or on her birthday or immediately after reading this article is not good enough. We need to make serving them and taking care of them our priority in life because this is what Islam teaches.

‘O Allah, Most Merciful, bless our parents, especially our mothers and grant us the patience to serve them and make them happy. O our Lord! let not them cry…not here and not there.’ Ameen. END

Peace and Salutations be upon Muhammad Salallahu Alayhe Wasallam.
