Islam & Other Religions
Islam is a unique religion that goes beyond the barriers that divide humanity. It recognises and accepts the different races, cultures and religions.
It is the only religion that accepts all other religions. This acceptance and tolerance is not just superficial but it is enshrined in its teachings and scriptures. It is a part of a Muslim’s faith to accept Hazrath Essa (AS) (Jesus Christ) who is the founder of the Christian faith and it is a part of his faith to accept Hazrath Moosa (As) (Moses) who is the founder of the Jewish faith etc.
If a Muslim does not accept these great Prophets then he is out of the fold of Islam. The acceptance of these religions in Islam is not recent, but it has been in Islam since its inception 1428 years ago.
Not only has Islam accepted these religions in their scriptures, it has also shown repeatedly throughout history that it has the ability to allow the freedom of religion when it rules.
The numerous treaties that the Prophet Salal Lahu Alayne Wasallam signed with the non Muslims are examples of this. When he conquered Mecca he did not force people to accept Islam.
When Muslims ruled Palestine they allowed freedom in religion and they did not destroy places of worship such as churches etc. Islam teaches:
“Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from error.” 2:256.
“And dispute you not with the people of the Book (Jews and Christians), except with means better than mere disputation unless it be those of them who inflict wrong and injury: But say we believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you, Our God and your God is one, and it is to Him we bow in Islam.”29:46
Forcing someone to accept Islam is totally against the very grain of Islam which teaches sincerity and truthfulness. The Truth will always shine through.
