Freedom – Is This Good Or Bad

Freedom – Is This Good Or Bad

At one time, up until the early 70s, all shops/businesses used to be closed on a Sunday. This was a government law derived from religion. Sunday is for going to church.

Under the guise of freedom and democracy, such religious laws were removed from western countries and replaced with man-made laws.

Words such as freedom and democracy are deceptively used to “pull the wool” over people’s eyes so as win elections and gain power, but at the same time it is used to promote wrong.

In reality, freedom and democracy is not practical, and it does not work.

If I’m a so-called free person, shouldn’t I be able to drive on whichever side of the road I want…Why should I need to be made to follow rules and laws? I’m a free person! Shouldn’t I have the choice to pay taxes or not? Ha Ha Ha…

The problem is that, when one considers himself “free”, he encroaches on the rights of others. Just as driving on the wrong side of the road would endanger the lives of others, so too are smaller freedoms which encroach on the rights of others.

One such “freedom” is the choice to dress as one pleases. A woman expressing her “freedom” and dressing scantily may infringe on the rights of a child who should be protected from nudity.

All of this makes the guise of freedom impractical. In short, not only do we need laws but we also need mechanisms in place to ensure that the laws are obeyed by all.

This means that we need to teach the rules first and then have deterrence’s such as fines, imprisonment and even the death penalty, when necessary, to enforce these rules.

What comes through from history is that the harsher the punishments, the least likelihood of anyone breaking the law.

Autocratic, dictator is made to sound bad but enforcing good laws is absolutely necessary for the well-being of all.

Losing our country to corruption, laziness and apathy, all under the guise of freedom and democracy, is still bearable, but losing our family and social bonds are far worse.

Marriages are breaking up because couples cannot follow rules and listen to each other. Everyone wants to have their own way/freedom.

Even when it comes to children, parents no longer have control over teenage or adult children. Children want the freedom to do as they please.

It gets worse. On a very personal level, If we lose control of our passions and our desires, then we lose it all. This is the bottom line.

In life, we need discipline, and having discipline is the first step towards not only growing our spirituality, but also attaining all round success.

Ironically, it is this very discipline and control that leads to true freedom. We become masters over our passions which opens up new experiences and new feelings.

True freedom is therefore freedom from our carnal desires, which results in contentment.

Our Holy Prophet Muhammad Salallahu Alayhe Wasallam has said: “None of you believes until he makes his passions follow what I have been commissioned with.”

Let us all work towards this goal of true freedom from our carnal desires and at the same time encourage and promote the enforcement of strict religious laws in our governments.
