Drops Of Tears

Drops of tears. To be soft hearted, to cry, to love…

With the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful,

“O Allah Give me provision of two eyes shedding profuse tears” Muhammad Salalahu Alayhe Wasallam.

Shedding tears is an important part of developing ourselves for it softens the heart, gets the attention of our Creator and brings us close to him.

“till the cloud weeps, how should the garden smile?
Till the baby cries, how should the milk begin to flow?
The one day old baby knows the way: I will cry, that the nurse may come. Do not you know that the nurse of all nurses gives no milk gratis without your crying? He (Allah) has said, “let them weep much.” Give ear, that the bounty of the Creator may pour forth milk.”
Mathnawi vol. 5: verse 134

Hazrath Dawood (AS) once bowed down in prostration and cried for forgiveness for his sins for so long that plants began to grow from the tears he shed. At times he used to cry amidst his entire kingdom including the animals and the intensity and sincerity of his crying was such that people in his gatherings used to die.

“The Prophet Salalahu Alayhe Wasallam has said that there are seven types of people that Allah would give shade under His shade on the day of resurrection and one of them is a man who remembers Allah sincerely and whose eyes are filled with tears.” Al Hadith 1:4:8:123

Shedding tears for the sake of Allah Subhanatallah stems from humility, sincerity, learning and a deep desire to please Allah.

“…because among these are men devoted to learning and men who have renounce the world, and they are not arrogant. And when they listen to the revelation received by their messenger, thou will see their eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognize the truth: They pray: “Our Lord! We believe, write us down among the witnesses.” Sura Al Maida 5:83

The Prophet Salalahu Alayhe Wasallam quite often in his prayers used to cry.

Having eyes that shed tears is what the pious people of Allah prayed for. Hazrath Abdullah b Amar (RA) has said: One drop of tear is dearer to me than the charity of one thousand gold coins.” Ihya Uloom id Deen. When a person sheds tears then he comes close to Allah. Once Hazrath Hanzalah (RA) reported that while he was listening to the Prophet Salalahu Alayhe Wasallam sermons he felt his heart soften and his eyes shed tears. When he returned home he forgot about this and began to happily go about life. When next he met the Prophet Salalahu Alayhe Wasallam he related to the Prophet Salalahu Alayhe Wasallam of what had happened. The Prophet Salalahu Alayhe Wasallam said:.“O Hanzalah had you been in that state of mind (soft heart with tears in your eyes) all along the angels would have had handshakes with you in your paths and beds. O Hanzalah, mind changes every moment.” Ihya Uloom id Deen

Not only must we shed tears for the sins we commit and for the religious understanding we experience but we must also shed tears for the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon us. He has given us faith and made us the ummah of his chosen Messenger. When Ata’a (RA) asked Hazrath Ayesha about the most wonderful thing about the Prophet Salallahu Alayhe Wasallam she wept and related that once while praying he wept throughout the prayer wetting his chest with tears and the prayer lasted until Bilal came to ask permission to call the fajar prayer. Hazrath Bilal (RA) asked him:

“O messenger of Allah what makes you weep when all your past and future sins have been forgiven.” To which he replied “Shall I not be a grateful servant.” Al Hadith 1:4:44:200w

So people! Feel, become human, love, want for others what  we would want for ourselves, be compassionate, become humble, learn about Allah Subhanatallah so that the tears may flow from our eyes and these tears would Inshallah bring us closer to Allah Subhanatallah.

Peace and salutations be upon Allah’s Messengers who are responsible for guiding humanity throughout time. Ameen.
