Amazing Human Abilities

Amazing Human Abilities

There are more than 200 000 words in the English language and there are 7000 thousand languages, which amounts to a whole lot of different sounds we humans make and different sounds we hear. The point is that, our ears can differentiate between millions, or maybe billions of different sounds.

What’s more, sometimes we can even make out a particular car just from something in the sound that it makes or we can recognise a person just by his voice.

Indeed we have amazing Human abilities.

That’s a lot of complex, nitty, gritty information travelling through the air, which is then transformed by three tiny bones in our ear to a message that is then sent via a nerve to the brain to process.

We are listening to sounds the whole day and although we pay attention to just a few, our brain is registering so much more sub consciously. Subhan-Allah, Indeed we have amazing Human abilities.

Then, consider taste. Water from different areas taste different. Everybody can cook a mutton curry but they will all taste different.

Different leaves, different fruits, different meats; all have their own unique taste and this little taste bud on our little tongue picks up all this information and sends it via the same nerves to the brain to interpret. Subhan-Allah! Indeed we have amazing Human abilities.

It’s the same with our sense of smell, sight and even our physical sense of feeling. A blind man, just by feeling, can tell so much more that we would miss because we are not paying as much attention. They can actually read just by touch. Subhan-Allah! Indeed we have amazing Human abilities.

We have these amazing human abilities to understand everything around us and to use these things in our environment in some way or the other. Just our cell phones alone are such an achievement. Subhan-Allah!

All these varying sounds, the intricate tastes, the bursts of endless colours, the wafting smells, the elaborate textures, our high tech inventions- it’s just the tip of the iceberg.

“We have surely created the human being in the finest make and the best proportions.” Al Quraan, 95:4

There is so much more to us humans.

When the Holy Prophet Muhammad Salal lahu Alayhe wa salam was dispatching a governor he asked him how he would rule. The Companion replied ‘by the Book of Allah’. The Prophet Salal lahu Alayhe wa sallam then asked, and what would you do if you do not find an answer there. The man replied then I would seek an answer from the way you did things (the Hadith). The Holy Prophet Salal lahu Alayhe wa sallam then enquired, ‘and if you do not get an answer there’, the companion then replied that I would use my conscience. This pleased the Holy Prophet Salal lahu Alayhe wa sallam.

Subhan-Allah! Conscience is something that is latent within us all. In the Mathnawi, Moula e Roum RA talks at length about the parrot as a simile to our souls trapped in our bodies. At one point he says:

“The parrot whose voice comes from (Divine) inspiration and whose beginning was before the beginning of existence

That parrot is hidden within you: you have seen the reflection of her upon this and that (the things of the phenomenal world).” Mathnawi, vol 1 verse 1714

Indeed we have amazing Human abilities.

So we all know right from wrong intuitively. However, our conscience is absolutely delicate in that if we ignore it or do contrary to what it holds dear then it does not talk to us again. We lose this latent ability in us to be able to differentiate between right and wrong. We can even reach a stage where we begin to see wrong as right and right as wrong. This is what this LGBTQ crowd has become.

However there are ways to develop our spirituality and our conscience. Stand up for right and shun wrong, especially within ourselves. Even if we do wrong, we must never condone it but instead repent and try to muster up the strength to avoid it the next time.

“He who does good, does it for (the good of) his own soul and he who does evil (the sad consequences of it) shall befall him, (for, after all) you will be brought back to your Lord.” Al Quraan, 45:15

So, we need to grow our spirituality by respecting and obeying our conscience and our religious laws. The more we do this, the stronger we become in terms of spiritulity. All this is important because this is an important step towards knowing our Creator.

Recognising our conscience starts off with pondering and reflecting on the one hand while it also involves shutting off our mind and just feeling or drifting in the huge universe that’s within us all on the other hand.

This is our spirituality and a Spiritual Teacher or Guide is essential to fully develop, explore and gain mastery of this aspect of our lives.

The important thing about our human spirituality is that it is very closely linked with our Creator.

Evil feelings such as pride, greed, hatred, spite and vengeance are things that hamper our spirituality while love, sharing and caring are feelings that nurture our spirituality.

In Islam, what really counts, is not so much our outer actions but instead our intentions behind our actions, our spirituality, the internal realm within us all.

Our humab spirituality is our essence and and just as we train our brains to think, we need to nurture our souls too as this is all important for this is the way to truly know our Creator. This is the way to eternal, everlasting bliss.

All our extraordinary physical senses are nothing when compared to our human spirituality.

Our spirituality is limitless. Unfortunately, unlike our physical senses that we get without effort, we have to work hard towards attaining an enlightened soul.

“And the (human) soul and That (Mighty Lord) Who made it perfect, Then He revealed to it its evil and its righteousness, one who purifies it (- his soul), certainly succeeds, And he indeed is ruined who corrupts it.” Al Quraan, 91:7

Hazrath Essa AS used to heal the blind and the sick just by touching them. He made a bird of clay and blew life into it.

Hazrath Sulaimaan AS rerouted his army because he heard the ants that were on the path talking about running away because of the approaching army.

Bibi Maryam AS used to get food without any effort. Hazrath Kizar AS could see the future and he took certain steps, by Allah’s leave, to make the outcome better.

A man in the gathering of Sulaimaan AS brought the throne of Bilquis in the blink of an eye.

Our Holy Prophet Muhammad Salal lahu Alayhe wa salam, just with his finger split the moon in two and put it together again. All these spiritual achievements are mentioned in our Holy Quran.

Indeed we have amazing Human abilities.

This is what we human beings are created to be and this is what we must strive towards – developing ourselves to reach our full potential, otherwise we are going to end up defective goods.
